Associations

Treat other suffixes as Lua

Map .txt / .bytes to Lua when the engine stores scripts that way.

files.associations

Open Settings, search files.associations, and add mappings:

"files.associations": {
  "*.txt": "lua",
  "*.bytes": "lua",
  "*.lua.txt": "lua"
}

Relation to debugging

Editor association does not mean the runtime loads the file as Lua; that still depends on the engine.
Include those suffixes in launch fileExtNames so path mapping works.
